Tips for Harvest and Winter Weddings

Many people imagine snow in their wedding pictures and beautiful poinsettias! But it takes a brave woman to plan their wedding in the fall and winter seasons. You are not guaranteed a beautiful day! It could be a rainy drury autumn day or it could be on the same day of the biggest blizzard of the year! It is a risk you take and I have no tips on how to not be crushed on your big day if it's a gray icky yucky day, other than to not get your hopes up and to wish for the most perfect day ever!

I recommend finding a town that is used to seeing high amounts of snow if you want a winter wedding. That way, the workers don't call in because there is 5 inches of snow on the ground and they aren't used to driving in "such conditions."  Find an intimate venue that has a homey, warm, seasonal feeling and one with an amazing opportunity for picture possibilities. I used to work at a conference center in college and we would deck the place out! We created ice skating rinks for corners of the lobby and decorated a crazy amount of Christmas trees! We provided more decorations than normal because it was the holidays. Be sure to ask if your venue is going to decorate for the autumn or winter seasons because it could drastically cut back on YOUR decorations budget. Wherever you can save, do it.

I have been getting coupon after coupon from Joann Fabrics and Michael's for harvest items at 50% off and they are already discounting Christmas ribbon by 50% to get it off their shelves in time for Valentine's decor. Stock up on that this season if you are planning on a harvest or winter wedding next year. Take advantage of end of the season deals and Black Friday. Stores discount their seasonal decorations like mad and this can save you a bundle! This is the time I stock up on white Christmas lights. You can never have enough. They can light up the underside of a tablecloth, the fireplace in your venue, doorways, or they can go under your fluff tablecloths on your cake table or head table. $1.99 a strand is the cheapest decoration you can find AND the best thing about it, you can use them next year on your house! Who can argue with that?!

Good luck with the planning ladies!!! Happy Holidays!!!

My First Hindu Wedding Experience at The Summit in Aurora, Colorado

Working with Gathering Light Photography helping market the amazing business Meghan has, has been a blast so far! I am able to sink my teeth into another industry that I need to know more about and gaining experience at the same time. Last night, I helped set up a photo booth! I am never outside of the reception once it starts, and Meghan, as the photographer, is. She is taking photos of the family, setting up extras, i.e., the photobooth and making sure the lights will be perfect or suitable for certain shots. I;m usually running around making sure everyone has forks or napkins at each setting and ensuring catering is on top of their game and that the bride and groom are blocked from view of the reception until their grand entrance.

Last night, Meghan invited me to the Hindu wedding she was shooting at The Summit, located in Aurora, CO. I loved it! It was sooooo beautiful! I had a grasp on the ceremony, even though they were speaking in another language. It was amazingly unique and so detailed! The blessings of certain foods made me very interested in researching more about their culture and why they bless the certain foods that they do.

The hiding of the bride and grooms shoes was very entertaining! The groom had to pay the bridesmaids all of his money before they revealed where they hid the shoes before the bride and groom could leave the ceremony site. The bridesmaids were American and they jumped right in on the traditions and the ceremony. It was truly beautiful. I loved being part of the photography crew, even though I wasn't taking photos, I was associated with them and it was a different take on a wedding for sure. I really enjoyed it and can't thank Meghan enough for giving me the opportunity you have.

Last Minute Details

I am so excited for the next wedding on my calendar! Will and Candice are such a wonderful couple and I can't wait for the pre-wedding festivities to start! I have one more day to nail down details, do as many sit-ups as one person can possibly handle and to help her with what she needs done.

Planning a wedding out of state can be kind of crazy. I think Candice will agree with that statement. You don't have the control you have when you are in the state and can't just drive over and yell at the florist for not capturing your vision correctly, you have to convey your anger through an email or over the phone on your lunch break.

I have to give props to my girl! I have helped her with her bouquets and her card box, and I have helped her nail some details down while in CO together, but she has nailed down many nails here in MI while in Aspen. Now it's the bridesmaids and whoever else is willing to help, turn in grabbing that hammer from Candy and telling her to breathe.

She looks amazing, her husband to be looks stunning and she made it here from Colorado in one piece. Now it's just letting it roll! The cake is under control thanks to her brother, the bridesmaid dresses fit which is a plus! No alterations needed, so no one will be hoping their dress is finished at the alterations shop before the wedding and we (the bridal party) are all in contact.

Months of planning and stressing paid off and we have all met in the same state, we are all ready to help and drive wherever needed and we are anxiously awaiting the main event and the events leading up to it.

The limo is booked, bacheloretty party is ready to rock and roll and everyone is working on their rockin' 80's costumes for the 80's themed bachelorette party!

I am so excited and so happy for Candy and Will to be saying "I do" and I just want her to know that no matter what may go astray on your big day, the main focus is you and Will and that you two just said your vows. I promise you Candy, that I will do everything in my power to help your day go as planned and as you saw it in your head! Congrats girl and let's get this show on the road!

Congratulations to Danny and Kat!!! 10.1.11

Cheers to the most amazingly cutest couple! I was so honored to be a part of their big day and decided I'd blog about phenomenal their wedding was.

Dan and Kat have been an inspiration to me since they met. Danny was so star struck when he met Kat and Kat has always had that look in her eye whenever I was around them. They are made for each other and I am so glad I witnessed their relationship go from the start to the wedding!

I remember when Danny told me he was proposing! I was home for a visit and he told me and I started to tear up. I jumped up and hugged him in such an emotional whirl! I was so excited he was going to pop the question. I was waiting for a text on the day he said he was going to do it and I was out with my bestie, Laura when I got it. I screamed in the middle of a crowded location and ran out to hear the details when he called me to tell me he said yes. I was so excited!!!

Kat's dress was to die for and the bridal party looked fantastic! I couldn't stop taking pictures of Kat's dress while she was at the alter exchanging her vows. Danny was speechless when he saw her and so was everyone else.

The wedding was picture perfect and the photographer who did their engagement session was phenomenal! I can't wait to see their wedding photos she did!

I wish Danny and Kat the best and wish them many happy years together! Here here to Danny and Kat!!! Congrats you two!

Harvest Time!!

It's that time of year again! I love this time of the year! Fall colors are back, pumpkin spice scents are all around and harvest weddings are abundant!

I get so much inspiration from these fall weddings! The colors never change because the season is always decked in the same colors, but every bride takes a different view on Fall weddings! It could be that she wants candied apples at every table, she could want halloween costumes to be the theme or she could just want fall leaves all over the place and the scents of fall all around the venue!  No matter what it may be, each fall, new great ideas come out and are placed in bride's or future bride's memories to make a little better at their wedding or to inspire new ideas!

My residence is fall colors and it's a warm feeling that greets you each and everytime you walk in! I love fall colors in weddings because not only are there amazingly happy vibes from every guest, the colors make you even happier and more relaxed. You just want to sit back and soak in the ambiance!

Congratulations to the brides who are just now getting engaged and planning their weddings for next year. Whether it be a harvest wedding or a spring wedding, each wedding is unique and special and I cannot wait to help you plan it! Happy Harvest!

The Break I Have Been Waiting For!

I am so excited! I am going to be helping one of the most amazing photographers out! I am going to be doing social media networking for Meghan, Owner of Gathering Light Photography!

I have been trying to get my foot in the door of sales and marketing and here is the door and it's opened! I love it! I cannot wait to help promote her business and organize it, network it and most importantly-work with her! I am so excited that she reached out to me and I can't wait to start!

To add to the happiness, I got a call from a bride and she paid me the biggest compliment! She said she had heard great things about two of her friend's weddings that I have done and she wanted me as her day of coordinator. I was soooo honored to hear such a thing and I can't believe that word of mouth really works! I heard it was the best advertising, but I have received two wedding jobs from the very first wedding I ever did as Four Seasons Wedding Planning, LLC!

Things are on their way up I hope and I can't wait until next year. I am so ready to grab it by the horns and take on the world of weddings!

Crooked Willow Venue Tour

I went out and toured this spectacular, hidden gem! It is way out in the middle of the horse farms of Larkspur and I get to run Hayley and Adam's wedding there on July 2nd! I cannot wait to see it all set up!

It is so enchanting. As soon as you walk into the event area, its acoustics are phenomenal and the windows are gorgeous! It's a converted horse barn with finished stalls and let me tell you, it's super unique! They have a photo booth area which I get to see in action during their wedding. There is this beautiful area for a buffet in a larger stall and it has three different entrances. I can't wait to see the double sided buffet running through this large converted stall!

The ceremony site is beautiful and the loft, which is plan B in case it rains, is phenomenal! It has a rustic feeling and is beautifully finished. The groom's room is huge and housed with a bar and huge TV. The bridal suite is beautifully decked out and has mirrors that are every girl's dream!

Gourmet Catering seems like they are on the ball and very details oriented just like me. I am looking forward to working side by side with their crew and seeing how they operate. We clicked during the meeting and had the same concepts we live by. I am going to be doing Christmas lights under their cake table to spruce up the photo ops and bringing vases for the bridal party and Hayley's bouquet.

Needless to say, great pics are coming and I can't wait to work with the two families that'll be brought together by this wedding and the catering company.

I'm Selling Card Boxes!

Giving card boxes to my girl's for their weddings coming up in October is an awesome wedding gift I think. They are customized to their colors and themes and I made with love from my heart that grows stronger each day that I know them. I enjoy making them and can't wait to make more! So...I'm making more and selling them!!!

I am currently using the two I've already made as examples of what I can do and I'll be starting a portfolio so my bride's can flip through the book and see the detail and intricacy that goes into each one. They have been costing me anywhere between $50 to $70 so I'm selling them for $80. I have ordered boxes off a whole sale site and saved some money on the main part of the project. I'm searching Michael's, Hobby Lobby and Joann's for bargain ribbon and I'm stocking up on scrapbooking materials because they are amazing for this hobby I've taken up just recently.

I have posted the two I've made on Etsy to show people what I can do and hopefully I'll get a nibble. I have a lady on Weddingbee that messaged me to see if I could make her one. I hope she messages back and says yes after I told her the price of it...We shall see though. I'm confident I can market these and start a fun hobby on the side.

Not only is it a hobby, it'll help me make more for my business too and save money for my bride's. $80 is a great deal for these! I was looking on Etsy and on google and a single box with a ribbon on it and a silkflower is going for $45-$50. I am doing three boxes and glueing each strand of ribbon to the boxes. Tell me I'm not doing someone a favor out there for selling them for $80!

Well, let me know if you have any ideas on how to market this further or if you have a friend or relative that needs a card box.

Sandals and More!

As I am becoming more and more knowledgeable about DIY things and actually putting effort into trying them out, I'm having a blast! I am making a portfolio so I can show my brides what else I can do for them other than plan their wedding!

I want to be able to make DIY things for the bride and groom or other clients to help them save money. I'll make the products for a discounted price and figure them into the package, in turn getting extra money for the business while reducing my client's bill in the end.

I have continued to add to my centerpieces I can offer to rent for $1 a piece. I am pretty sure I'll be tacking on a security deposit on my rentable centerpieces, but it won't be a deal breaker. Take a look at my newest thing I just created today.

My girlfriend is getting married in October and she is not a big fan of heels. So after the ceremony and the pictures, she can rock my blinged out sandals if she wants. They were fun and easy to make! I just used a little bit of ribbon, which I wrapped around the rubber part of the sandals and then spruced them up with some rhinestones!
If you know anyone who is interested in getting their sandals or heels blinged out, getting a customized card box,  or renting centerpieces, let me know. I have a wide variety of centerpieces and I can make any kind of card box as long as I know their colors and the theme of their wedding. I don't have to be contracted with them to run their wedding or plan it. I'd be more than happy to make card boxes or bling sandals out all day long!

DIY Crazy!

I was scrapbooking with Karen and Kristin on Easter weekend and went to Michael's to get some more supplies. I was walking through the store and came across the smaller hat box that has the damask ribbon pattern on it and remembered I told Candice I'd make her a card box for her wedding coming up this October! I grabbed the hat box and immediately went down the ribbon aisle. Inspiration hit me and I couldn't wait to get back to Karen's to scrapbook and then see what I could do with the hat box.

I got done with my pages I was creating for the scrapbook and I started to work my DIY skills! I got the first layer of the cake looking card box done and then added their last name to it with scrapbooking letters I had bought for my scrapbook. I couldn't wait to finish it!

I went to Michael's after the first day back to work after Easter and couldn't wait to find the two larger hat boxes. I found em alright, they were super expensive! I decided I'd go to Joann Fabrics. Behold! The exact hat boxes and more than half the price! I was stoked! I now know where to go for hat boxes! Why am I going back for more? Because I want to make more and sell them!  I loved making this card box and I am making one Kayti for her wedding next year. I want to make some and put them on the weddingbee website and it's so much fun to do!

As for the other piece in the photo, I have no idea what Candice will use it for at her wedding if she even will use it at all, but it was fun to make. It could be used as filler on the guestbook table or welcome table. I have had a lot of inspirations lately and have been all over the weddingbee website to view their DIY gallery. Let's just say I am super excited to make more things!

If you know anyone who wants a cardbox, I'll make one! I'll ship it anywhere. I want to start making them and posting them on my blog too. They are easy to make and fun to design! I think the ribbon was the most expensive part on the box. The whole box cost me $50 and it's an amazing wedding gift, well besides me at the wedding lol, jk Candy. Love you!  I can't wait to show it to you in person! And I'm blinging out some sandals for her too! So much ahead of me! Let me know what you think guys!

Lucy and Alex's Amazing Wedding 4/29/11

Bagpipes flooded the room, blue suede high heel shoes graced the bride in her tea length dress, converse shoes were worn by the groom and some rockin' black and white animal print heels were displayed by the bridesmaids during this amazing celebration of two lovers who tied the knot after 9 years!

I was absolutely honored when Lucy approached me and asked me to run hers and Alex's wedding. I couldn't have been happier to be able to not only witness the union of these two awesome individuals, but to make sure their day went absolutely perfectly and flawlessly.

This couple is not just your normal everyday couple, they are the most individual, artistic, insightful individuals who found each other in high school nine years ago and fell so deeply in love that they together, make the most amazingly eccentric couple to not only hang around with but to be influenced by. Everything about them makes my mind work and twist in ways I never thought possible. They are so down to earth and laid back, but they grab people's interest by being them and they just pull you into their world, which is the most beautiful world to be a part of. I was very excited to see how their wedding would be decorated, conducted and ran. It turned out I got to be the one to run it and help decorate it. Therefore, I got to be a witness of how they decided to conducted the most amazing day of their life.

They used lanterns to light up the vintage style, stone, mountain venue, called Boettcher Mansion. It didn't need much decoration because the building itself was the most beautiful mountain escape. We accented the cake table with river rocks to help bring out the building's walls. Lanterns were the centerpieces with river rocks on the bottom and they were surrounded by rose petals and three tea light votives. When you stepped back to take a full view of the room, it was simply breathtaking.

Lucy spent a lot of time on the signs that decked the mountain escape. Alex, a tatoo artist, drew up a bird that summed them up so perfectly and that was the object of focus on the signs used for the wedding and the invitations they sent out. They were printed on thick card stock paper and aged by a unique technique Lucy read about. The room, the entrance and the guestbook table looked phenomenal!

The cake was brought all the way from Wyoming, made by a family member for them. It was absolutely devine! I have had a lot of wedding cake in my life, but never have I tasted a carrot cake like this one! There were other flavors but I got a carrot cake. AMAZING!

Desmond, their close friend, married them and played the bagpipes for their grand entrance. He brought the gift of music to their wedding and wowed us all. It rang throughout the cottage and just gave you goosebumps because it was so perfectly fitted for the room and for this occassion. The acoustics definitely fancied the bagpipe's sounds.

At the end of the night, the shuttle arrived to take them down the mountain to their hotel. Alex told me that he would recommend me to anyone because I amazed him on how on it I was all night. I saw them off and continued clean up and loading the remaining alcohol, decorations and other miscellaneous items into my vehicle. The lady who was overseeing the event said that the wedding was perfectly executed and went so smoothly that she was more than impressed. As a wedding coordinator and day of coordinator, it melted my heart to know my friends and the overseer of the venue was impressed with my services. I can't wait to see all of the photos Megan Huf took and definitely recommend her and her company to anyone who wants a friendly, well trained, photographer or photographers.

I want to end this entry with a huge congratulations to Lucy and Alex and wish them a forever of happiness!!

Phew! It Has Been A While

I have been slacking on my blog what with an amazing trip to New York and Lucy and Alex's wedding that happened on April 29th! (Which went amazingly by the way)! I need to get back on track here and keep blogging!

I had an amazing experience in New York with my boyfriend and his two college buddies. We did EVERYTHING POSSIBLE! We walked more than 6 miles one day! Let's just say that at the end of the night, I bought new shoes! I couldn't walk another inch in my boots. We explored the city for four days and only had one plan-a cruise on NY Harbor that we all purchased from a groupon special. We were sooooooo excited about it and when we finally arrived at the harbor after walking more than 100 blocks since there wasn't a metro stop close to the harbor and we needed to spend the day on that side of town, we got even more excited! It was going to be a blast! Dinner, drinks and dancing on New York Harbor at night! What an adventure!

We were told to come back to the dock at 7 exactly when we arrived at the check in spot at 6:00pm. So we watched the boats go by and watched a sea plane take a spot on the water. We walked back to the check-in and waited in line with the other excited people. As a wedding planner, I saw soooooo much potential for this company! They have great reviews already and I was planning on helping them out with my blogging about it and great pics of a great time. Instead, I'm writing a blog of warning to NEVER BOOK A CRUISE WITH MARCO POLO CRUISES.

Once we finally got on the ship, the ticket said the cruise would run from 7-10pm. We didn't take off until 7:45! When we boarded though, the music was a bit loud. I figured they were doing that to get us excited and pumped up. We all went to the second floor because there were no more first floor tables available. The only other tables at the point available on the second floor were right next to the DJ and his massive speakers. Not a great location but I figured the bumping music would be lowered as soon as we all boarded. It wasn't lowered...here began the problem. The lady sitting at the table in front of us, 3 tables away from the speaker and the DJ, pulled out kleenex and created earplugs for herself. I was starting to get a headache, so I went downstairs to ask the people who helped board the ship and direct people if the music would be lowered once we took off. The deckhand said, "Absolutely, there's just no one to turn it down right now, I'll run up in a second." This calmed my nerve a bit but made no sense to me. There was a DJ who was controlling the volume...so I went back upstairs and waited for the deckhand to do what he said he'd do in a second-turn the volume down on the ship. Nothing. I finally approached the DJ who was clearly in his own little world and I asked him in a screaming tone because that was what I had to use in order to be audible, if the music would be turned down. He said, "Eventually." I asked if it would be soon because I was getting a headached and I didn't bring any tylenol. He just shrugged his shoulders and twisted his lips up to give me a facial expression of, "too bad so sad," and he went back to mixing his music and dismissed me.

At this point, as an event planner, I got angry. The DJ is supposed to be respectable. The captain of the boat came up a few minutes later and told him to turn it down. He turned it down a bit so I didn't have to scream to be heard by my boyfriend who was sitting next to me. So I told my boyfriend what the DJ said to me. He got angry that he would do that. We decided to get our drinks and calm down a bit. We get to the bar and the bartender was the utmost rudest person I'd experienced working for tips. I asked for a vodka cranberry and she promptly said, "The tickets are only good for beer, wine or soda. I don't even have cranberry juice anyway." So I ordered wine. They gave it to me in a plastic cup practically the size of a dixie cup! We decided dinner was next on the agenda and it'd be quieter downstairs where the buffet was being served. Let me tell you about stingy servers! It's a buffet! They served us the smallest portions possible! When you asked for a little more, they looked at you like, "really?" My boyfriend asked for two stuffed pasta shells and the lady refused. We got back upstairs hoping the music was lowered for dinner time. Not a chance. In fact, after the captain asked him to turn the music down, he creeped it back up a bit louder while we were getting dinner.

Vegetables were freezing on my plate! Either the burners weren't going underneath the food or we just go the shaft. Halfway through dinner, my boyfriend could tell I was upset and he went to talk to another employee. He asked an employee for the manager and he said he could help him. He told our story and the employee said that the second deck is loud because it's the dancing floor and that if I had a headache, I shouldn't have sat next to the speaker. My boyfriend quickly snapped and said, "She didn't have the headache before she got on the boat." He changed his tune a bit but still wasn't offering any solutions. He came back just as angry as I did after talking to the DJ and we decided to leave our cold food and head up to the top deck where we could enjoy the scenery.

I approached the lady at the other table who created ear plugs out of kleenex and asked her what she said to the DJ a bit earlier. She said she just asked if he'd be playing salsa and nothing much other than that. I told her how upset I was and how much of a headache I had. She ended up giving me a handful of Tylenol 500mgs and she said she had already taken some.

On the top deck, I approached a deckhand. I asked where the manager was and he said, "Why? A complaint?" I said "Yes, in fact I DO have a complaint." He told me he was the head of security and could try and help. I told him that if he was the head of security that he should know that one of his passengers is considering jumping off the boat to get off this wretched boat! He said, "As the head of security, I really hope you decide not to do so." We chuckled and I told him that I was seriously upset with the DJ and the music. When guests are approaching you to tell you to turn the music down, you should respond accordingly to their request and that during dinner, the point of music is to be a background noise. He told me that the second floor was the dancing hall but he'd let his manager know of my complaint. Again, no resolution offered! AND I STILL DON'T KNOW WHO THE MANAGER IS!

We stayed at the top of the boat the entire rest of the cruise! The ship sailed the same location a couple times and didn't dock until 10:30. I couldn't wait to dock and it was a half hour later than it was supposed to be! What if someone had a babysitter? What if I had other things planned that night and we didn't dock on time because he wanted to give us the full 3 hours but just do circles in the harbor?! The crazy thing was it could have been a bit more on time if in fact we would have taken off at 7:15 when the boat was completely loaded and no one else was in line on the dock, but NO, we had to wait to leave until 7:45!  It was obsurd!! It ruined our whole entire night.

I had to write this to get it off my chest. So spread the word, MARCO POLO CRUISES in NEW YORK-NOT SO GOOD AT ALL!

I GOT A BUNCH OF FUN THINGS!

So I bought these to rent to my bride's! It'll help cut down the cost of centerpieces! In the copper basket on the top, there are 19 bud vases I got off a wedding website where bride's sell their previously used wedding items. One of the is in the bottom pic too so you can see the size of it. On the right side of the copper basket, I have 5 cylinder vases which are shown in the bottom pic as well. They are awesome to put on the head table to put the bridesmaid's and bride's bouquets in when they come in and sit at the ehad table for the first time.

The twigs in the vase is a DIY centerpiece I put together. I love it! Perfect for a woodsy/nature themed wedding.

The third pic down is a close up of the bud vases so you can see the details.

The last pic is the biggest score I have gotten! It was a tip from a fellow bee on Wedding Bee, the same site I got the bud vases from. I got 29 of these votive holders! Weird number, but I miscounted...I am sooooooooooooooooooo excited about these and can't wait to use them in a wedding!!!

I got diamonds to put on the cake table, head table or wherever the bling looks best! I love these things! Always good to have a little bling on hand...or A LOT!

I want to have these on hand so I can help cut costs. Centerpieces get crazy expenseive super quick and I love creating them.

A Wonderful Compliment!

I received a message from Drea, my first bride I worked for as Four Seasons Wedding Planning. She told me her friend was going to possibly be contacting me because she asked for my number to see if I could do her day of coordination for her wedding in July. I immediately got bubbles and butterflies in my stomach. How awesome is it that a guest realized how well her wedding went?

A couple days later, I got a call and it was her. I was so excited to actually talk to her and tell her how glad I was that she got my information. My call connection wasn't that clear though because I live in the middle of no where and signals sometimes go in and out. A few months passed and I hadn't heard back. A couple weeks ago, she called me and asked me to meet with her. I was soooo stoked! I couldn't wait to meet her again. We met at Drea's wedding but didn't really converse. I met her last week for lunch and she's a blast! She told me that Drea's wedding seemed to go seamlessly and wanted that for her wedding. I told her she hired the right girl for the job!

I am really excited to help her plan her timeline and watch her dream day unfold before our very eyes! I can't wait to learn more about her and her future husband and I can't wait to help her make her dream wedding a reality!

The wedding season is starting off wonderfully and I can't wait to see Lucy and Alex's wedding that is coming up at the end of this month. My portfolio is growing while I help my friend's biggest day of their life happen flawlessy and wonderfully! Cheers to everyone and here's to a beautifully amazing wedding season! Congrats to the married couples to be!

My Best Friends' Weddings!

As a wedding planner, I feel like I have a lot of options to watch other's weddings this year. Particularly two of my absolute best friend's weddings that are taking place one weekend apart in October! I unfortunately didn't get to attend my college roommate's wedding this past Friday, and I so wish I could have been there! It was devine looking in the photos I've seen so far. I can only imagine what it looked like in real life! Congratulations Court and Todd! You're a beautiful couple and your invitations are in my portfolio of invitations to show off!

I just walked to the mailbox and checked what came today. Much to my surprise, two wedding related pieces of mail were the only things in the box besides some coupons! I have just received a save the date reminder from my best friend, Danny, back in Michigan and his absolutely gorgeous fiance, Kat. Their engagement photo session was absolutely breathtaking and their photographer did an absolutely amazing job capturing their undying, unbelievable amount of love and care for each other! So...what better way to showcase their beautiful photos than on their save the date reminder?! It was so simple but so them! They glued a transparent piece of paper over a photograph with their message on it. When I opened it, it brought tears to my eyes...in fact, I'm still a bit teary eyed. To know my best friend, well one of my best guy friends, there is a group of them back home and they know who they are, has found the love of his life makes me so happy and to be able to witness their exchange of vows October 1, has me absolutely tongue tied!

The other piece of mail I received is for Kyle's co-worker's pre- Georgia wedding party. This is another wedding I unfortunately won't be attending...I don't have a lot of money right now, or I would so be flying to Georgia to see them get hitched! BUT, I'm really excited to be able to show them my happiness for them on March 30th at a local venue. This party will be yet another event that I can observe and take notes on. I love it! The more parties I can attend, the more knowledge I'll soak in for my business.

I can't blog about just these weddings, when my best friend of 18 years is getting married October 8th this year! I'm in this one! I cannot wait! I love being in weddings as much as I love planning them! Candice and Will live in Aspen but we are all from Michigan originally. So! The wedding is going to be in Michigan! They came up with an awesome save the date reminder as well and I adore it! It'd be in my portfolio if it wasn't on my roommate Laura's fridge! It's a magnet! They also sent a paper one too, but the magnet was so savvy! Go Candy and Will! We are in the midst of picking out bridesmaid gowns and figuring out a way to get Candy's wedding dress altered when it's up here in Denver and she's in Aspen. I'm so extremely excited that Candy has found her man and I'm glad we all approve of him, just kidding Will, I had to say something snarky, or it wouldn't be me! I am so blessed to have these two in my life and I can't wait to be there on the day they become man and wife so all the girl's who cried at Elyse's wedding (One of my 3 best girlfriends from elementary, who got married to the man of her dreams last year) can cry at Candice and Will's wedding! There are four of us that have been together since we were in 2nd grade. And besides being in different states, we are inseperable!

All in all, all of the weddings I'll be a guest at rather than a coordinator at this year, makes me extremely giddy thinking about them! I'll be running a wedding April 29th for two very close friends of mine from Grand Junction! I cannot wait to see the finished product, seeing as how Lucy has been the most organized bride I have ever seen in my life! She had binders for everything and excel spread sheets. I learned a lot from her and she has been an absolute dream to work with and just go out and chit chat with about her upcoming wedding! They have been together 9 years and they are finally getting married. I love them as a couple just as much as I love them as individuals and their wedding is going to be just as fun as they are in life and love. Congratulations Lucy and Alex and thank you for letting me share in this amazingly special day! You're an absolute special couple and it's an honor to be running your big day! Cheers everyone!

This is a rather long blog, but did you really think a blog titled "My Best Friends' Weddings" would be short?

In a few months I'll be blogging about the last one of the elementary pack to get married, (Besides me) wedding. Kayti has agreed to marry her long time boyfriend, Anthony. Watching this wedding in the beginning stages will be a blast as well! Everyone around me is either getting engaged, married or pregnant. I'm loving every moment of it! Congrats to all of my friends who are reaching these milestones in their lives!  Just remember I'm here to plan your events!

Cupcakes and Venues

Today was a wedding planner's dream come true.

My client urged me to call the Arapahoe County Fairground again to talk to them. I told him it was booked. The lady I talked to about 2 weeks ago told me they were booked in Sept of next year for a cross country national championship. They had already taken up the whole weekend. I trudged on...called a lot of venues, got a lot of prices, got a lot of ideas, but was getting no where. After he emailed me today, I called them again to double check that I had received wrong information. It turns out I did!!!

Just for everyone's reference, Arapahoe County Fairgrounds is revamping their contracts, prices and some other details. They AREN'T booking until next month and they are in fact, NOT BOOKED NEXT SEPTEMEBER. They are booked THIS SEPTEMBER for Labor Day weekend. This means, the venue my clients have been pulling for since I met them, may be a reality! I am taking them out to see Chatfield Botanic Gardens just so they can broaden their search since we can't book Arapahoe County Fairgrounds until next month.

You're all probably wondering what the cupcakes  part of the title is all about. My friend is wanting to open a cupcakery! I am so excited! I'm helping her market it and tell her what I have done to market my company. I just designed a website and I'm going to show it to her tomorrow. I'm so excited to see her face when she sees it.

It was a fun day watching all of this unfold. Marketing, adverstising, venues becoming available and just the bright sunny day was enough to make me smile. I'll keep you updated on my friend's cupcakery business. It'll be exciting to watch it grow and become a roaring business.

Weddeos-A New Concept!

I received an email today from a company called Weddeos. They claimed I'd be a great network to make because of the nature of business I do. I was interested so I read on. Come to find out, the concept they have created is awesomely exciting!

The story behind the company and concept is all based on a niche Danny Prussman, the founder of Weddeos, stumbled upon. He is a professional filmmaker and founded a vfx and editorial company, a motion graphics company and is also an award winning director. Danny had a number of friends asking him to compile footage from their phones and cameras instead of hiring some pricey viedoegrapher. Danny started suggesting having people at the wedding that were close to either the bride or groom, have a video camera and seeing what they capture. He would then compile the footage and make a video from the footage gathered at the event.

Danny is now sending 3-5 cameras to the event and having family members shoot the videos and obtain lots of different  extremes when it comes to the footage they gather. Family members tend to have a bit more access than the average videographer, so the footage can be a lot more in depth and intimate if you will. He will even let you take a camera on your honeymoon, which a lot of people don't get to see other than the bride and groom.

It takes about 1 to 3 weeks to have the weddeo completed and they can include photos as well.

I heard this and I loved it! Their prices aren't bad at all and your family will help get footage to be remembered forever! I usually try to sway people away from hiring their family members to work at their wedding or event, but in this case, I think it's a unique idea.

Check them out at http://weddeos.com/ and take a look at their pricing. You won't be disappointed!

Venues Are Creatively Expensive!

Venues I knew had you right where they wanted you, but the ones around here have some funny stipulations.
I ran into a venue that has a $250 opting out of catering fee. If I want to bring in my own caterer, we have to pa $250. I have also ran into a cop fee. Not only were two of their employed supervisors required to be at the site for $25/hour and 2 were required, but I need 3 off duty cops at $35/hour each.

I am hoping to purchase some linens from a fried/co-worker to cut back on the future cost of venues charging for their linen and I'm purchasing some bud vases from wedding bee to help reduce the price of cetnterpieces. Anything I can do to help cut my bride and groom's cost is going to help my budgeting abilities. If anyone knows anyone that has colored linen they purchased for their event that they don't want anymore, please give them my information.

Napkins are a bugger too. It's pretty standard for each napkin to be rented out for .50 a piece. I would love to get napkins to have on hand as well.

All in all, each venue has a way to get a little bit more money for something to customize it to make it feel like your own customized venue. I applaud them for it but at the same time, cringe when I hear each venues way to get a bit more money for something I'm NOT using or am planning on customizing to make my clients happy.

I am making a binder for each one I call so I know what venue offers what and charges for not using. I think that'll make my next event that I plan a lot easier.

Wedding Planner Planning a Quinceanera!

I can't believe how awesome this quinceanera is turning out so far! I made huge headway today in an hour. Imagine how much more will happen between now and Sept 2012!

We are looking at Chatfield Botanic Gardens. The lady I talked to today, Chris, was so sweet! We are going out to see it hopefully two weeks from now. Once we land the venue, the rest will follow. I love seeing the venue so I can lock in a vision. The amount of details that can unfold for me once I see the venue are endless! I have this ability to look at an empty room and envision the event and the set up of it in a heartbeat. I can draw a layout as fast as Jimmy John's can deliver subs!

As for what comes with the venue, I am pretty stoked. We can bring in our own liquor, I just need to have a licensed bartender or two to serve. Monnie said she has people that she can recruit. The caterer doesn't need to have a license. We just have to pay $250 to opt out of using their preferred caterer. Not too bad considering the amount of money they are saving having Monnie do the catering. She doesn't have a bunch of employers to pay.
There is a $50 disposal fee if we don't want to take the garbage with us. They will give us 150 chairs and the rest can be rented at a dollar a piece. They will include 20 round tables and 5 8 foot tables. Any additional tables can be rented for $5. It will seat 120 people in the bar and Chris said they have had 450 people outside in the patio area. Lights are on the patio and I love the idea of inside/outside versatility. Some people can choose to be outside and if they get cold, they can go inside. We don't have to worry about noise because the venue is rented to only us!

As for the videography and photography...I scored! If I didn't please tell me...I think I scored. I spoke with Alise at All Digital Photography and she said we can have up to 7 hours of videography with two cameras/two videographers for $1995. She had a 4 hour package with just videography for 4 hours for $995. Each videography package comes with a dvd that has edited video (up to 3 hours) and they use wireless mics while filming. She also has a package for 8 hours with two photographers and 2 videographers for $2995. She is bi-lingual and of the Latina descent as well. She knows her stuff when it comes to these parties. I love it!

I have a photographer, Brian Kraft who wants to work with me too. I met with him earlier last year and his work is phenomenal. If there is a way to work both of these companies together it'd be fantastic! I have to see how much my clients have decided to spend on photography and videography now and we'll go from there. But so far, in a days work, I feel I've gotten somewhere for this quinceanera.  Yay!

Making Headway on the Quinceanera

So I think I found a venue that will work for us! Actually, I need to thank my lovely co-worker, Nadine, who got married at this venue. She was talking about it and I realized that she mentioned she did her own catering and had to run and get more alcohol for her wedding (which meant they could bring their own alcohol)!!! BINGO!

So I jumped on the website and researched it and sure enough, it's a gorgeous location! It's called the Chatfield Botanic Gardens! You can rent the whole park and have a party of up to 1000 people. Plenty of room for my client's Quinceanera!

Now if only I could find a photographer that would be affordable...I'm working on that and have requested quotes from  a few.

As for linen, I found WeddingBee. That was a great start. My client actually forwarded me the link to tableclothlinens.com. What an awesome site! I told her to jump on the deals she found. We decided it was going to be a celadon green and lavendar purple theme. We are doing rock candy for centerpieces with purple gerber daisies that have a green center. It's going to be amazingly beautiful!

Monnie is rocking it on the food and she had some connections for mariachis! I'm stoked to hear what she thought of the tapes she got this weekend to listen to. The next meeting we will be tasting the scrumptious stuff she came up with and seeing if it's as amazing as it sounds. (It will be without a doubt-her food is divine)!

So it's now March 2, 2010 and we are this far. We have until Sept. 2012 to make this the most amazing Quinceanera Monnie and I have ever put our names on!!!

Addicted To WeddingBee

I have just recently become a "Bee." Any brides or event planners need to become a member of "the hive." It's this exxxxxtraordinary website that has classifieds, vendor reviews, a blog, DIY ideas, and a board.

I have spent two days on it looking through the classifieds and it's a great way for brides to sell things from weddings that have passed, pre-sales before their wedding, or things they bought for a wedding that unfortunately didn't happen...

There are so many links to vendors, sponsors, and shops that specialize in wedding products and ideas. I highly recommend this site seeing as how there are so many opportunities to find some random things you didn't know you were looking for.

I can't stop raving about this and I told everyone at work today about it. I even got one of my co-workers to sign up to become a fellow bee. Spread the word, or should I say spread the buzz?

Wedding Dress for Sale! Never Been Worn!

My co-worker purchased two dresses for her big day.She found this one and then found another she liked better. It's a David's Bridal strapless pick-up dress. She is selling it for $250. It's on sale right now at David's Bridal for $449. If you're interested or know anyone who is interested, please let me know. People Are Finding Me

I am not sure how people are finding me, but I love it! I can't believe the power of the internet. It has blown me away in the past few months!

I have been updating the sites that are top of google and making sure they are clean and pristine. All I can say is I'm hopeful for this year and I hope that it's going to be as good as I think it is going to be.

I had someone email me today that was promoting her new up and coming designs that she apparently has had amazing feedback on. She prints pictures onto slate, ceramic tiles, metal and hardwood. I am hopefully going to be meeting with her shortly to see her work and I'll make yet another network. I am stoked people are reaching out to me to promote their business. I have the volume of clicks on the web that I am looking for and I am being asked for advice every other day it seems.

I just recently had someone email me asking for a job and to assist my wedding planners. I got a bubbly feeling in my stomach when I apprently looked like a "not so new business" that was well established and had assistants. I do everything by myself but my work showcased on my websites I have all over must make it appear like I have assistants. I love that! I know I have a talent to make a wedding more than a wedding with my attention to detail and I love using it. So pass on my business and I'll pass on yours!

My First Quinceanera!

I am so excited to say that my catering partner, Monnie, Owner of Viva Los Tacos, and I are planning a quinceanera! I have never done one before, but my research I've done has been very fascinating! The traditions are endless, the amount of time and preparation that goes into it is equivalent to a wedding and the fun they are going to have is unimaginable.

I am planning this event from the ground up and budgeting its traditions and entertainment is very fun! I get to meet with the family this Thursday to discuss the financials and I'll keep you posted on the updates. I cannot wait until next year in September to see the end result!

What Do I Get My Bridesmaids?

I just stumbled upon Birchbox. It's a monthly subscription that delivers samples to you and your bridesmaid's doors. If you come across something that strikes you as a "must have," you can buy the full size! It's $10 a month and you can choose the subscription length.

What an idea?! I love it! It takes away the stress of buying the perfect gift for each bridesmaid or buying matching jewelry everyone will like and be able to wear again.

Once you become a member, you have access to their site which houses a bunch of tips and tricks to make you and your bridesmaids look fabulous and make them feel great on the big day!  There is a monthly membership option or a whole year for $110. The samples come packaged in a cute pink box and wrapped very eloquently.  Check it out at http://www.birchbox.com/

Uneven Bridal Party

To all of you brides out there that are worried about having an uneven bridal party... you need not worry. It turns out it's more common than you think!

I just attended the Grant Humphrey's Mansion Bridal Expo on January 31st and I attended a wedding planning course. During that course, 3 brides spoke up about what they were going through with their wedding party being uneven-whether it was they didn't want a wedding party for the bridal side, but the groom wanted his friends or he didn't have as many friends as she did. The wedding planner's suggestion? Roll with it! "It happens more than you think." she said. Her suggestion on how to arrange them on the day of the wedding was to spread them out in a circular shape around the backside of you like they were in a theatre watching you but from the other side, so they were facing the people who were sitting in the pews.
I loved that idea! That way, it wasn't a focal point in the photos when you and your groom were exchanging vows. They appeared as a background who had a V.I.P view!

I thought of a lot of bride's who had that problem and they had to have people they wouldn't have normally chosen to stand up in their wedding party just to make it even with groom or bride's side. This doesn't have to happen anymore! Choose the people you want and talk to your wedding coordinator about the best way to arrange the party on the day of your wedding to make sure the uneven bridal party isn't the main focal point in the photos. Try staggering them too: Girl, girl, boy, girl, boy, girl, girl in a U-Shape behind you on the altar. Good luck!

Links to Bridal Expos and Great Sites

I have shared these links on my group page on Facebook as well. I am all about spreading the word so brides can go to as many expos as possible before choosing their vendors. I am a huge fan of mountain weddings and quaint little spots that are hidden for ceremonies. Here are some links I have found and enjoyed looking at.

http://www.weddingsitesandservices.com/Colorado/ReceptionSites/Mountains.html
This one has big and little mountain sites to either get married or hold a reception.

Heart of the Rockies Bridal Expo-March 13 in Salida
http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.heartoftherockiesbridal.com%2F&h=4dd87
This link is a bridal show that is in Salida, CO on March 13th. It's free to brides and its vendors are only allowed to be in Chaffee County.  So if you want to know the exact vendors who are available in this county that is home of 14,000 ft. mountains, they'll be there.

Grant-Humphrey Mansion Bridal Expo-January 30 in Denver
http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.qualityhillbridalshow.com%2F&h=4dd87
I'm going to this one! I can't wait! It's free for brides and it's at a beautiful mansion! What more could  a bride want?!

http://www.bridalfestivals.com/
This site has a list of expos in the Colorado areas all the time. I follow this one and usually end up at the Denver Metro ones. It's a great show. Highly recommended.

http://rockymtnbridalshow.com/#content=shows.html
I am looking into being a vendor at this show. It's April 17th and April 21st 11am-4pm at the Colorado Convention Center. The website is well organized and it looks very exciting. Tickets are $7 but there is also a coupon on the website that you can get to discount that price.

ISES Wedding Expo-Jan 21st in Denver
http://colorado.perfectweddingguide.com/events/bridal-shows/9424/
This one is on 17th St. in Denver 5pm-8pm. I would totally be going if in fact I wasn't flying out to Vegas that day. It's $10 at the door and the first 50 people to register get entered to win som amazing prizes! This site also gives you more info on a few more bridal shows in the Boulder area and through April 17th. This is an awesome site that give you many options. ISES is an amazing society called Internation Special Events Society. Anything they do is phenomenal! Out of all of the wedding expos on this site, I'd want to go to the ISES one.

Hope this helps! I want to make sure every bride knows what I know. Cheers!

2011 Wedding Trends

With my recent research, I've made up a list of trends for 2011.

-Bright colors for bridesmaid dresses or navy and yellow, red, nude or burnt red.  Gray is the new alternative to brown this year too.
-Tea length wedding dresses and dresses with pockets on them.
-Varied table sizes. Not just round tables, but mix it up a little. Add some character to the room.
-Country flowers, recycled products, and a rustic feel.
-Long tables to bring a vintage feel to the room.
-The DIY concept (Do  It Yourself) Your own personal touches make the decorations more personable.
-Textured fabrics for linens or for the altar.
-Creative wedding cake toppers.
-Not so traditional centerpieces, i.e. floating candles, vases with fish in them , more vintage themed and not just your bouquet of flowers.

I hope these help! I am personally really excited about the navy and yellow colors being popular together. I can also see navy and burnt red creating a smashing look as well!

An All White Wedding?

There is a new hype-all of the bridesmaids along with the bride, sporting white dresses.

There are two sides to this, as every fashion statement has...

1.) White is for the bride, it's the traditional way and everyone else should wear something other than white so that the bride's thunder isn't stolen.

2.) When all of the bridesmaids are in white dresses, it shows the bride is secure enough to know that this is her day, she's with the people that care,  and that is all that matters.

I like both statements. I have seen many different colors at weddings but never bridesmaids wearing white dresses too! I am open to new ideas and open to the bride showing her family this day is special and she doesn't need all the attention, but I think all white dresses are too extreme. I think alternating every other bridesmaid dress with white would be an interesting twist and a nice accent touch to the altar, but it wouldn't be my first choice. When I think about altars during weddings, I think about colors and smiles from your closest friends accenting the two main people, whom we all came to see becoming man and wife.

I am all about great photos for a great day and I think that too much white washes out the photos. Colors make the picture come to life. It makes it look more elegant and they pop out at you so much more than if you were to have ALL white. What do you think?

First Post Ever

I have been told by many people I need to start a blog. I figured I'd follow their advice and see what this thing can do for me.

I am starting my 2nd year with my event coordinating business and I'm watching it grow right in front of my eyes. I am going to a huge bridal show at a mansion in Golden on Jan. 30th and hope to get a few clients there. I found out the hard way that if I would have paid for a booth at the last expo I went to, I'd have been the only event coordinator there. I found out about this expo on the 30th from Facebook and I hope it'll be worth it.

I am going to be attending this event with a couple of my independent business owners as well. One has her own catering company and she makes authentic Mexican food. Her business is called "Viva Los Tacos." She works with me and has been helping me figure out ways to market my business. We might even create a package together! Who doesn't want authentic Mexican food?! The other independent business owner is a friend of mine, as well, who sells jewelry. She has been looking for ways to expand her clientel as well. I guess my catering friend and I aren't enough to support her, just kidding. We are addicted to jewelry and we're always bringing our jewlery we get at great deals to work and sharing our deal spots!

I have created a new website and I hope now that it's not a flash based website, google spiders will pick it up and hopefully have me on the first page of google soon. We can only hope right? Check it out at www.wix.com/jolle1cl/denverweddings

Well, I am interested to see how many followers I get on this blog and hope this helps my business grow a little each blog post. I'm off to walk my dog. Have a great night everyone and I'll try and keep up on this blog weekly with my business updates. Thanks for reading!
